The United States and Jordan have announced enhanced cooperation to protect and preserve Petra's invaluable cultural heritage while promoting sustainable tourism practices for local community development.
US officials praised the Petra Development and Tourism Region Authority's (PDTRA) efforts to preserve Petra's cultural heritage and improve its tourism offering, citing visible progress in site maintenance, tourism infrastructure, and visitor experience.
The partnership focuses on cultural heritage preservation and restoration, sustainable tourism infrastructure development, local community engagement and economic benefits, and environmental protection measures.
Petra, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the New Seven Wonders of the World, continues to be Jordan's most iconic tourist attraction. The partnership aims to ensure that future generations can continue to experience this remarkable ancient city while supporting the livelihoods of local communities.
