In a significant move to boost tourism, Jordan has officially extended the maximum stay period for foreign tourists from 30 to 90 days, effective immediately for all nationalities. The decision, announced by the Ministry of Interior in coordination with the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, eliminates the need for tourists to visit police stations for visa extensions during their first three months in the country. Previously, tourists were required to register at a local police station within 30 days of arrival if they wished to extend their stay. The new policy streamlines the process and encourages longer visits, which is expected to increase per-tourist spending significantly. The extended visa validity is particularly beneficial for visitors planning to explore Jordan's diverse attractions, from the ancient city of Petra and the Roman ruins of Jerash to the Red Sea resort city of Aqaba and the therapeutic waters of the Dead Sea. Tourism industry stakeholders have welcomed the decision, noting that it positions Jordan competitively against neighboring destinations that offer similar extended stay options. The move is expected to particularly benefit the growing digital nomad and long-stay tourism segments.
